It was such a beautiful read for my kids, that really puts yourself in Little E's shoes, who is a sweet boy wrongly accused of doing some damage in their neighborhood. The story helps everyone see that Little E had no part in the damage, and helps you understand what it feels like to be in a situation like his. It builds empathy, centers love, and helps kids see that these stories can be PRISMATIC, centering Little E's lived experience (which is steeped in equity pedagogy) and written for a child audience to identify with completely!”

“Little E is the story of a black boy protagonist who is courageous in the face of fear, overcomes a personal challenge, and saves his neighborhood when a baseball breaks a neighbor's car window. Little E shows all children and adults how to stand up, be brave, and make a difference in other people's lives and one's own. My 9-year-old daughter admired Little E's use of self-regulation strategies to overcome his stutter and connected to Little E's determination to solve the the mystery in the story. My 13-year-old son recommends this book to any age reader and noted Little E's intelligence in solving the mystery in the book. My son wants to utilize the strategy of drawing on paper his own feelings when he is frustrated and upset, like the character Little E. The illustrations in the book are beautiful and make the story come alive.”

Great book for providing mirrors and windows to children of all racial and SES backgrounds

“I love this book. It takes the reader on an emotional journey that plants the seeds of empathy for Black children who are mis-seen and wrongly accused. It ends with a developmentally appropriate happy ending, which hopefully leads the readers to desire and seek that in their own worlds (even if it doesn't always end that way in real life). Little Eddie's wide eyes are endearing and loveable from the very beginning. I love how Lil Eddie describes his neighborhood so lovingly, while the house he lives in is not "middle class perfect." It helps the reader imagine that there are strong neighborhoods and relationships everywhere. There are lots of points of connection that readers of any background could make--being misunderstood, working through fears, finding your voice. It's beautiful.”
